Characters Played Here: Rex and Dr. Whale
Character: St. John Allerdyce / Pyro
Series/Canon: X-Men: Evolution
From When? After Magneto gets blown the fuck up or whatever and Pyro decides he has nothing better to do than watch it on loop over and over again because it's funny. THIS SCENE.
History: Nothing much is known about St. John Allerdyce's childhood. Born in Sydney, Australia, he was likely raised in a fairly normal middle class family. When his abilities manifested around the age of 15, he mostly utilized them for pranks and petty acts of criminality. While he was never a full-fledged delinquent, St. John skirted the line of "bad boy." Easygoing and affable, with a love for being the center of attention, he didn't have a hard time making friends, despite the fact that he was a bit of a weirdo with an obsession with fire. St. John was a creative type, and he excelled in English writing and literature classes, but tended to skate by on the bare minimum with everything else. Despite his talent, he often settled for churning out quick, crappy-- but entertaining-- stories. St. John was more the next R. L. Stine than he was the next James Joyce (whom he hated, anyway).
By the time he was 17/18, he never quite grew out of his troublemaking tendencies. A prank gone wrong ended in a fire that destroyed the restaurant he had been working in, injuring seven people, but thankfully killing nobody. This caught the attention of both the police, who were going to charge him with arson, and Magneto, who offered the young man a way out from his legal woes.
It didn't take much to sell the Acolytes to St. John-- who was now known as Pyro. While he never quite bought into Magneto's ideals of mutant supremacy, the Acolytes offered him the opportunity to truly relish his abilities, to use them without consequence. He practiced use of his abilities, growing from a prankster to a force to be reckoned with, truly earning his place amongst the elite team.
From there, see the Wiki from Season 2 - 4.
Personality: Pyro is the sort who takes joy in the little things, like fire, and more importantly, setting things... and people... and places on fire. You'll know this by the ever-present cackle lets loose whenever he's indulging in a bit of arson. It's fun to him; it entertains him. He is positively jovial when he's lighting things up, and he doesn't care who gets caught in his path. In fact, if people do get caught in his path? All the better! He'll just laugh harder. Everything's a giant joke to him, which is why, even though he follows Magneto, it's clear that he's only in it for the chance to use his powers recklessly and cause loads of damage. Pyro isn't a true believer in the party line, and it's made apparent by the fact that when Magneto's taken out by Apocalypse, he finds it hiiiiiilarious and reacts with no loyalty to the man whatsoever, instead taking joy in rewinding a video clip of Magneto being defeated over and over again.
St. John is incredibly outgoing, generally manic and giddy, and is talkative to the point of obnoxiousness. He'll just keep going after people have already left the room or stopped talking to him. He can be witty, if you consider puns witty, but people don't tend to find him particularly funny because he’s really just a jerk. Due to his general demeanor (and the fact that his moral compass is flimsy, at best), St. John can come across as having no concern for anybody but himself. He thinks cartoon-like violence is quite hilarious, when it happens to other people, and he tends to put “roasting folks” in the same category as “cartoon-like.” Although he's far from evil, his sense of empathy is stunted, and he really doesn't seem to give a damn when others get hurt-- in fact, he laughs. However, it's likely more to do with the fact that he doesn't really take anything all that seriously than it is genuine sadism on his part. After all, if he were a true sadist, he would have actually injured somebody with his abilities by now, rather than just create nuisances and obstructions.
St. John absolutely relishes his powers. Usually, when he's using them, there's just the biggest smile on his face. A tremendous show-off, he likes to add some flair to his abilities. Rather than simply hurl fireballs at his opponents, his flames will often manifest as creatures, such as monsters, horses, dragons, ghouls, giant hands, etc. It's worth noting because it lends some insight into his personality: this points to a love of his abilities (he's clearly spent time honing them so that he can create unique apparitions), a desire to show off and be the center of attention, and a creative streak. Many times that he uses his abilities, he favors style over substance, going for big, showy moments rather than utilizing tactical thinking and actually neutralizing his opponents. Everything's a game to Pyro, including fights.
St. John can be pretty aggressive. He enjoys a good fight, and he won't shy away from it when confronted, even if he does restrain his abilities enough not to roast people alive. His pride in his abilities makes him arrogant, and he believes he's untouchable while he's got access to fire. Unfortunately, the second they're cut off, he's all but useless, and he'll usually stand around looking confused until he's beaten up, indicating that he's not all that well-versed in fisticuffs. It's worth noting, though, that he doesn't run away when he's about to lose a fight, so there's some bravery to him... or it's just the result of self-delusion. Either or.
Pyro's capable of doing good if it suits him. Like most of the Brotherhood and Acolytes, he's more neutral than evil; a selfish opportunist rather than a genuine villain. Which isn't to say that St. John is simply misunderstood-- unlike the Brotherhood characters, there's no indication that he comes from a rough background and acts out due to a lack of opportunity to do anything better. St. John chose his path; he's intelligent enough to know what he's doing is wrong, and he chooses to do it anyway simply because, well, he wants to.
Why do you think your character would work in this setting? He largely accepted Eli's offer for two reasons: he's a wanted terrorist in his world and doesn't really want to deal with the consequences of that, and he's bored out of his mind since the Acolytes temporarily split up. HE NEEDS SOMETHING TO DO. Settling on an alien planet for 6 months sounds pretty awesome, and he's expecting it to be super adventurous, which, given the calamities that happen in New Dodge, isn't far off the mark.
What will your character do for work? English teacher. He's a vaguely talented writer, and he enjoys literature, and nobody else is teaching English (to my knowledge), so he might as well do it. Even though he's like... 19. IT'LL BE A LEARNING EXPERIENCE FOR ALL.
Inventory: His Pyro getup, complete with a flamethrower, a ton of lighters and matches and lighter fluid, regular civvie clothes, books, books, books, notebooks full of terrible fiction, a laptop full of terrible fiction, and that's about it. Nothing special. Except for the flamethrower.
Samples: And now for the hard part! If you need a prompt for your samples, refer back to the Applications Page.
Third-Person Sample: Test Drive Meme.
First-Person Sample: TLV intro. Pyro is a serious writer.

That was it? That was what everyone was making such a big fuss about? An empty little town. Booooring. Thought we'd get some real fun here for a change. Talk about disappointment, eh?
Next time we go to port, I hope there's a bit of action. The only danger I was in here was of dying of boredom.
[OOC: So Pyro was in safe Silent Hill the whole time. Yuuup.]

Apr. 22nd, 2013 08:49 pmHey, since everyone else is doing it, I figured I ought'a apologize for how I was during that flood. To anyone I helped, to any bad guys I stopped, and to any old ladies I helped across the road: I'm sorry. [He holds up his hands.] I wasn't myself! I would've never done any of that if I was in my own head. [He laughs-- well, cackles-- heartily.]
Also, Xavier? Yeah, I know you're the wrong one, but whatever, someone's gotta tell ya: those uniforms of yours are a fashion disaster. [Says the guy who runs around in orange and red spandex.]
[OOC: So, Pyro did some tiny thing differently in his alternate timeline, and basically grew into Scott Summers, A TOTALLY RESPONSIBLE BOY SCOUT. And he was running around in some version of this uniform the whole time. And he was being super helpful and trying to stop any villainous shenanigans he came across. So, you can assume he was either helpful at you or lectured you about goodness and righteousness and the perils of villainy. Also, he was a warden.]

What the hell happened? I get some shuteye, and suddenly the whole ship's gone mental! [Or that's his assessment from reading Rex's post and the assorted arguments in it.] Don't tell me I missed out on another flood! Those are hilarious.

Hahahaaa! You guys sure know how to put on a show! I'm tellin' ya, the dining hall's where it's at if you wanna see some good entertainment! First the fork thing, and now this? What happened, someone spike the food with some bad mushrooms? Haha! Aw, mates. [He makes as if to wipe away a tear from his jovial laughter.] I love it here.
Tell me someone got all that on camera.

Nov. 29th, 2012 11:15 pmYou know what this ship needs? A little heart, a little love. Some romance. Luckily, I've got just the ticket! It's a work in progress, so let me know what you think.
Just note: this is a work of fiction. Any resemblance to people living or dead was purely a coincidence.

Right, so, that place? Wasn't fun at all. I'm starting to see why you guys are always whinging about the Admiral's choice of holiday destinations. [Pyro lets out a sneeze, then holds up his hands in surrender.] I've learned my lesson! The Barge ain't all it's cracked up to be.
Anyone seen Azula? Think I might'a lost her while making our great escape from the Haunted Mansion. Didn't go so well. [He sneezes again.] If I ever see snow again, it'll be all too soon.

Nov. 5th, 2012 08:21 pm[Here's Pyro doing what he does best! LAUGHING. Joyfully. He's hanging out in one of the common rooms.]
What a week! Anyone else see that girl get stabbed with a fork a couple days before we crashed? [He laughs.] Priceless. That was some Oz stuff! The show, that is, not the Wizard of or the country.
Hahaaa... [He's this close to wiping a tear of joy from his face.] Only in prison, mates. Who needs a telly when we've got the Barge?
Loved the port, by the way. Always was a big fan of Carroll. Shame that you lot seemed to lose your minds for a second there-- and your heads. I think we ought'a call up Dr. Phil to help you sort things out.
[Private to Wanda]
You in your room? I've got ooone magic mushroom, coming right up!
[OOC: So he's sort of asking to get punched and I will welcome it if it comes down to it :V
EDIT: OH. And he's referring to the events that happened in the dining hall in this log]

Oct. 31st, 2012 03:02 pm[Pyro's standing by the hedge maze, which is not the best place to be. He hasn't explored very far yet.]
Ah, nature... All these flowers and trees. And a hedge maze! It's pretty, but I think it'll look even better with a little spark, a little flare, something to reaaaally light this place up. [He snaps his fingers.] I know!
[Can you guess what he's got in mind? The answer is fire. It's always fire. However, before he can whip out his lighter, some of the Queen's Cards approach from behind.]
Halt! By order of the Queen!
[He looks back and raises his brow.]
Playing cards? [He grins at the camera.] I wonder how flammable they--
[One of them hurls a lance at him. He yelps, jumps out of the way.]
Cripes!
[Annnnnd he starts running away from the hedge maze, the communicator going off after a few moments.]
[OOC: And off Pyro goes into Wonderland. His pyromania will only grow as the port goes on, so eventually you'll find him trying to set even rivers and stones and whatnot on fire. Unless he loses his lighter, in which case he'll just try to use two sticks to start a fire. If you want to run into him at any time during port, feel free to spam away.]

Oct. 22nd, 2012 11:30 amAttention, anklebiters! Do you like... fire? 'Course you do! If you don't, then you ought'a stay away from the deck, just saying, because it's time to light this place up! Ahahahaaa! Come on up here for a real show-- the deck's about to go off!
( Cut for fire. )
Not to worry, mates, no kids will be harmed in the making of this movie! Though I can't make the same promise for the rest of ya, haha!
[Because as big of a jerk as he is, he has his limits. TINIES ARE... UH, AS SAFE AS THEY CAN BE, GIVEN THE CIRCUMSTANCES. So not very safe at all, somebody stop him. Pyro has no idea what's actually appropriate behavior around kids, okay. He just wants them to think he's cool /sob sob.]

Currently, you can find him perched on the back of a chair in the dining hall, the communicator propped up on, idk, a salt and pepper shaker to cant the angle up at him.]
I didn't realize so many of you were so precious. All cute and fluffy... You all look reaaaal ridiculous! [UNLIKE THE MAJESTIC KOOKABURRA. He laughs some more.] This is hilarious! Wonder how long it'll be before you all start eating each other, hahaaa!
[More laughter, etc. Then it finally dies down.]
Ahhhh... I love this ship.
[OOC: And if anyone wants to spam with him, you can find him in the dining hall or on the deck. OR JUST FOLLOW THE SOUND OF ANNOYING LAUGHTER.]

Sep. 25th, 2012 09:03 pmThat happen often? 'Cause that was brilliant! [He laughs rather uncontrollably.]
( [TW: Fire (and references to violence)] )
[He chuckles and cuts the feed.]

[Then comes back a few minutes later sounding like he's calmed down. He's trying to sound... sincere.]
I wasn't myself for any of that. [The breach, that is, not the laughing fit.] It was completely uncharacteristic of me.
[Snerk. End transmission before he busts out laughing again.]
[OOC: TWO THINGS. One, to avoid any "why didn't the police react?" issues, I'm going to say that he didn't commit the crime until the very end of the breach. Also, for reference purposes: he was Johnny Allerdyce, a young thug who worked in Prefect's gang as an enforcer. He was known around Redemption for being a troublemaker.
Two, I'm going to try to hit up ANCIENT TAGS, so this is just a heads up to people, you'll probably be getting some tags within the next few days for threads you might've thought were dropped. Feel free to drop them if you've already moved on from our thread! I'm just trying to play catch up a little late is all.]
( [TW: Fire (and references to violence)] )
[He chuckles and cuts the feed.]
...

Sep. 16th, 2012 10:04 am[Pyro's back! But this time he's not wearing his ridiculous costume, because, well... What's the point without the flamethrower? He's lounging on a couch in one of the common rooms.]
So, I'm curious. If those've us with powers have to find ourselves neutered when we come here, why not the bog-standard humans? Because it's really not on that I could get the shit kicked outta me by some Olympian human with nary a way to defend myself. I say-- in the interest in fairness and all that rubbish [He waves a hand.]-- we have the Admiral cap all the humans out at like 25% strength. Then everyone loses equally in this shoddy system!
[He laughs. No, he's not really expecting anything to come of this.]
Anywayyyy, [He waggles a pack of cigarettes at the camera.] I've got a pack of ciggies and no way of lighting them. Anyone got a spare lighter?
[He actually does have a lighter, but he wants MORE. MOOOOORE.]

Sep. 8th, 2012 05:17 pm[Say hello to a young man in a ridiculous costume with a mighty Australian accent. He winces and rubs the back of his head.]
Well, well, well, ain't this somethin'? One minute, I'm tradin' fisticuffs with a giant statue, and the next, I find myself niiiice an' cozy on a cruise ship.
In outer bloody space.
Give it to me straight, doctor. I'm dead, aren't I?
[He laughs, loudly and obnoxiously, because LOL NAW, HE'S TOTALLY NOT DEAD, THIS IS ALL A JOKE. He flips the camera up at the stars shooting past all around the Barge.]
Must'a got clocked in the head pretty bad, 'cause I'm seein' stars!
[He's a real comedian, that Pyro. Abruptly, the laughter stops.]
No, really, where the hell am I? I mean, aside from "the Barge;" I got that from the one transmission I bothered to listen to.
[He glances at his arms, realizes that the hoses that connect to his non-existent flamethrower are missing.] And where's the rest of my suit?!
[OOC: May be fire talk in the comments.]
